What is speed?
Everything in the world is in motion directly or indirectly. Our walking, running, cycling etc. The rotation of the earth on its axis
And completing the orbit of the Sun once in a year.
The Sun also moves along with its planets.
Definition of motion
The change in position of an object is called speed. That is, when an object keeps changing its position with respect to the objects around it, then the changed position of the object is called motion. Like a man moving, a moving vehicle, a flowing river, etc.

There are many types of motion of moving objects. Such as simple linear motion, circular motion, rotational motion, periodic motion, oscillating/vibrating motion.
Linear Motion –
When an object moves in a straight line, its motion is called straight line motion. For example, speed of vehicles running on the road, speed of a running player etc. are examples of simple linear motion.
Circular Motion
When an object revolves around a certain point in a circular path for a certain distance, then its motion is called circular motion. For example, the motion of the earth around the sun, the motion of the moon around the earth, the motion of the hands of a clock, the motion of a bull running the crusher, etc. are examples of circular motion.
Rotational Motion –
When an object rotates about its axis or axis, its motion is called rotational motion. For example, the motion of a potter's wheel, the speed of a spinning wheel, the motion of a pulley, etc. are examples of rotational motion.
Recurring Speed
When a moving object repeats its motion after a certain period of time, its motion is called periodic motion. Examples of periodic motion are the motion of the earth around the sun, the motion of clockwise, etc.
Oscillatory Motion –
When an object moves in a straight line on either side of its middle position, then its motion is called oscillating/vibrating motion. For example, the motion of a child swinging in a swing, the motion of a pendulum of a wall clock, etc. are examples of oscillatory motion.

Rolling is a type of motion that combines the rotation and translation of that object with respect to a surface such that, if ideal conditions exist, the two are in contact with each other without slipping. Rolling where there is no sliding is called pure rolling.

Sir Isaac Newton first gave the laws of motion in his book Principia in 1687. According to Newton there are three laws of motion which are as follows-
first law of motion
It is also called the law of inertia or the law of inertia. In the words of Newton, this law states that “every object remains in its state of constant or uniform velocity unless it is caused by an external factor (force) to cause a change in state”. This means that according to the first law of motion, if an object is in a stationary state, it will remain in a stationary state and if an object is in a state of motion, it will remain in motion unless an external force is applied to it. This is called the law of inertia.
Example- Fruits on a tree remain in a stationary state until some force is applied on it and if that tree is shaken, the fruits and flowers start falling from it.
second law of motion
The second law of motion is also called the law of momentum. According to Newton, “The change in momentum of an object is directly proportional to the force acting on that object and occurs in the same direction.” ,
Example- To catch a fast approaching ball, the bowler moves his hands slightly backwards so that the weight of the ball can be reduced and he does not get hurt.
third law of motion
The third law of motion is also called the law of action reaction. According to this law, if there is an action on an object from one direction, then there is a reaction on it from the opposite direction, this is the law of action reaction.
Example- If we shoot from a gun, then the bullet goes forward and we get a jerk backwards or feel a force, this is the law of action and reaction.
