 Subsidiary Alliance The Subsidiary Alliance was originally used by Dupleix for the first time in India, after which Lord Wellesley established a widespread expansion.  This treaty was a kind of friendship treaty whose purpose was to expand the British power and empire in India.  It was in a way a type of diplomatic colony done by the British on Indian rulers and Nawabs, whose economic borne was proposed by the head of Indian kings.



 Subsidiary alliance was a policy of military expansion of the British at the expense of Indian kings, which in a few years captured 12 princely states like Mysore, Tanjore, Awadh and in a few years all the princely states became mere puppets of English power.  Got reduced.

 (3) He had to consider the British as the supreme power.



 (4) He could not employ any European other than the British.  The purpose of this condition was to reduce the influence of the French in India.



 (5) He had to have an English resident (representative) in his state, on whose advice he had to run all his government work.



 (6) In case of mutual disputes, he had to accept the mediation of the British and their decisions had to be accepted.



 Impact of Subsidiary Treaty on India



 The company's dominance was established in India.  The prestige and power of the company increased.



 This gave the company a great army at the expense of the Indian states.  Who was ready to fight in any direction at any time at short notice.



 Through the Subsidiary Treaty, the Company's army was able to go far beyond the political frontier.



 By this method the company was completely successful in thwarting the French movies in India, which were feared at that time.



 Indian states could not form a federation against the British.



 The control of the company was established in the places of strategic importance.



 Residents located in these states started interfering in the internal matters as well.



 The Company got a lot of 'Absolute Sovereign Territories'.




 Advantages, Disadvantages and Conclusions of Subsidiary Pact:



 The East India Company benefited the most from this treaty and the Indian princely states had to bear the maximum loss.  Gradually, the Indian princely states started becoming weak and paralyzed and all the freedoms were transferred to the hands of the British, as a result, the native princely states became dependent on the mercy of the British.
