FASTag is mounted on the windscreen of the vehicle and allows the customer to pay toll tax directly from the prepaid or linked bank account with this tag.
In case of prepaid, the tag can be recharged by check or online payment. While passing through the toll, the consumer receives a message immediately after the payment is made through FASTag.
The Electronic Toll Collection System was initially implemented in the year 2014 as a pilot project in Ahmedabad-Mumbai section of Golden Quadrilateral road. It is currently accepted on more than 500 national highways in the country.
The implementation of this system is done by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. TED, which is a company incorporated by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is being done through toll plaza, tagging agency and bank along with National Payment Corporation of India. The validity of a FASTag is five years.
According to the government, due to the implementation of this system, the damage caused due to delays on the roads can be reduced. Also fuel can be saved. In 2014-15, a study by the Government of India (jointly by the Transport Corporation of India and IIM Calcutta) estimated that additional fuel consumption on Indian roads due to cost and transportation delays would result in $14.7 billion and $6.6 billion, respectively, annually. damage occurs.
From this point of view, it is expected that these losses can be reduced with the implementation of FASTag.
