What is a fossil ?

Fossil fuels are the fuels made from the remains of living organisms within the earth over time. Fossilization is a physico-chemical change that occurs over hundreds of thousands of years until an organism (be it animal or plant) becomes fossil.  Besides that the fossilization process requires many, many years, it is also a process of long time and patience, searching for and recovering fossils.

 What is a fossil?-

Those structures of dead animals and trees which have been preserved by nature for thousands of years are called fossil fuels.

Dinosaur fossils have been found in Queensland, Australia.  It is believed that this dinosaur must have been 15 to 21 meters in length.

 fossil fuel-

We get coal, petroleum and natural gas from inside the earth.  According to scientists, all these are fossil fuels because all these substances are made from the remains of organisms (plant and animal).

Various fuels obtained from petroleum such as LPG, petrol and kerosene (kerosene) also come under the category of fossil fuels.

Millions of years ago, due to natural disasters, the flora and fauna present on the earth got buried in the depths of the earth.  Gradually the layers of soil and sand got deposited on them.  Due to the absence of oxygen, high temperature and pressure inside the earth, over a period of time the living things got converted into coal.

Petroleum is also believed to have arisen over time as a result of many natural processes due to the burial of marine life remains in the ocean floor.

Fossil fuels like coal and petroleum, formed over millions of years, are invaluable reserves of energy, which are being used continuously by humans.  Due to increasing population, new industries and changes in our lifestyle, these energy sources are being over-exploited.  Water and air pollution is increasing due to coal mining.  Petroleum refining factories are polluting the atmosphere, as well as the smoke from the use of these fuels is also polluting the atmosphere highly, causing many health problems.

Today's humans use 100 times more energy than primitive humans.  It is estimated that if the rate of energy consumption continues to increase in this way, then these reserves of fossil fuels will be exhausted by about the middle of the 21st century.  What would happen in such a situation?  All industries and factories will be closed.  All the work has to be done without the help of machines i.e. by muscles, this is a matter of serious concern.  Can we imagine life in present times without petrol, diesel, LPG and electricity?  If not, then to deal with the energy crisis it is necessary that-

 1. The wastage of energy should be stopped, that is, the least amount of energy should be used as per the requirement.

 2. New and alternative sources of energy should be discovered, from which unlimited amounts of energy can be obtained for a long time.
